I am a Cape Town based artist, illustrator and maker of things. In my work I engage with themes of identity, perception, consciousness, memory and value. I am interested in understanding the concept of the “self” as being constructed from polarities. Where are these elements in opposition and where do they counter-balance one another? I try to explore each of these concepts from a personal view point and in this way attempt to better comprehend and navigate the material and abstract aspects of this world in which I literally and figuratively ‘find’ myself.

 My main vehicle of expression is painting. Witnessing an image emerge from countless layers of colour is similar to wading through complicated layers of perception to gain insight. I do not limit myself to this medium, however, finding expression in drawing and ceramics. I allow each project to inform my choice of medium.

 I hope, with this work, to encourage critical viewership and challenge what is seen as normal, acceptable and worthy of value. For each project I have included a brief description as a starting point on which my viewer can build.
