THE BODY AS ICON AND OBJECT OF SCRUTINY
THE INSIDE
ARTIST STATEMENT
This series links to the mural I painted for the IPA Festival in Salt River, Cape Town. The brief asked artists to uplift those living in the community and thought what better way that than give them a window to transport them into a different reality. The mural is an abstract landscape, other-worldly and peaceful. A place the imagination can be free and anything is possible. The canvas paintings have a strong storytelling narrative, they are departure points for the viewer to enter the imaginary world and complete the story in their own imaginations. The characters bring the landscapes to life, make them accessible on a human level and in this way they encourage interaction between the painting and the audience. The images came about very spontaneously, fanciful places that have been manifested into the real world.
These paintings will be going on a travelling exhibition around South Africa and Europe through the BAZ ART Foundation http://baz-art.co.za/
Exhibition details to be announced shortly.
